
The Research directorate has appointed an Administrator who will be responsible for NRF and all pre-grant research funding proposals. Dr Anette Mienie, Director of the directorate, said this strategic position aims to enhance external income secured for research initiatives and ultimately an increase in third stream income. Dr Mienie said Mthobeli Myeza will provide the following support: circulate calls for funding proposals; arrange workshops for staff members interested in developing research funding proposals; advise staff members on the development of their research funding proposals; submit the proposals to the relevant funding agencies; and follow up on submissions and provide applicants with feedback on the outcome of their proposals.
Myeza is a professional with a comprehensive background in various domains, including Environmental Sustainability, Change Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Cost Leadership, Strategic Planning, Financial Strategy, Management Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Grant Management. Myeza’s expertise spans across both the private and public sectors, demonstrating a strong capacity for integrating financial and strategic planning with sustainable business practices.
Myeza was a UCDP (University Capacity Development Programme) Administrator at Durban University of Technology (DUT), where he managed over seven grants from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), including University Development Capacity Grant (UCDG), nGAP, and Nurturing Emerging Scholars Programme (NESP) programmes, ensuring effective fund allocation and compliance with pre-grant conditions. He led the introduction of a Project-Based Learning initiative for first years and Postgraduate Diploma students in Management Accounting enhancing student learning outcomes and fostering industry collaboration.
Myeza’s scholarly focus is on the adoption of Activity-Based Costing (ABC) at Universities of Technology. His focus examines how ABC can enhance financial decision-making and resource allocation within academic institutions, thereby improving their financial sustainability and operational efficiency. Myeza has participated in significant educational and research projects such as the Epistemic Decolonization Project and the Signature Pedagogies Project, further enriching his understanding of contemporary educational and management issues.
