The excitement at the University continues to build as more of our outstanding academics receive prestigious NRF ratings! Recently, we celebrated a remarkable achievement: Professor Papy Numbi from the Department of Electrical Engineering has skyrocketed from a Y2 to a C2 rating. This leap showcases his remarkable progress from the lowest to a middle-tier rating, highlighting his dedication and hard work. But that was not all. Dr Courage Mlambo from the Department of Public Administration and Economics also received a notable C3 rating, adding to the growing list of our esteemed researchers making waves in their fields.
Now, it’s time to shine the spotlight on Dr. Karishma Singh. As a passionate Lecturer in the Faculty of Applied and Health Sciences’ Department of Nature Conservation, she has proudly attained a Y2 rating. This recognition signifies her immense potential, recognised by most reviewers, showcasing her promising research output.
Responding to the fantastic news, Dr. Singh expressed her exhilaration: “I am truly honoured to receive the Y2 rating, which not only validates the trajectory of my research but also fuels my motivation to soar even higher”. This achievement reinforces her determination to build a robust and impactful research profile, particularly through exciting interdisciplinary collaborations and applied scholarship.
“This recognition enhances my confidence in chasing competitive grants, leading innovative projects, and mentoring the next generation of scholars,” Dr. Singh noted enthusiastically. She also mentioned how this rating inspires her commitment to integrating research into teaching, enriching students’ learning experiences with cutting-edge, relevant information.
“Furthermore, it drives me to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the classroom,” she said enthusiastically. “Overall, this Y2 rating is not just a milestone but a powerful springboard, urging me to contribute meaningfully to academia and society!” Dr. Singh’s journey is a testament to our University community’s vibrant and dynamic spirit.
Dr Singh was congratulated by Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement (RIE), Dr Anette Mienie, for “doing MUT proud with this major achievement”. Dr Singh just returned from Italy, where she took part in an ICGEB Practical Course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Data Science and Bioinformatics. The event was held in Trieste, between 10 and 14 March 2025.
